Expensive gas, or does it need more repairs?

Yes.

The story of my automotive life is unsolicited compliments/requests to buy my car/questions about modifications.

Today it was a guy in a neon orange safety vest walking in to the grocery store after I started my car up to leave, who first waved a bunch to get my attention then gave a big thumbs up.

Stupid car and all this unwanted attention.

Actually it’s in a pretty good place repair wise right now. I need new rear wheels and tires but other than that it’s currently all but perfect ! My gas is about 2.77 a gallon this week.

Mine shall be returned to me this week. Final collision repair bill: $10,500 on the insurance company’s dime.

Extra things that allows me to get fixed other than the body damage? That’s a big fat 0, good buddy.

How did the body damage come to 10,000 ? I’m finally about to pull the trigger on a new set of wheels sometime next week.

Because I had to have it fixed by a repair shop instead of a body shop and my mechanic is a gigantic crook?

His guilt, as usual, lies in him not listening. I tell him to put it back together so it drives, he performs a full on restoration to factory from hood ornament to front license plate. I tell him if he does nothing else while the front of the car is off, replace the harmonic balancer. Does my car have a new harmonic balancer? Hell no, 4 times I told him previously but somehow last Wednesday was the first he’d heard of it... And I tried to buy my own parts to control costs. I called to ask specific questions to buy the right parts, and he gives me dismissive and frankly wrong information causing me to waste money. Could he have just told me there were more nuances than I could really manage without looking at the car? Sure. And I would have believed him. But it is their policy to basically give customers who want to participate in part selection enough rope to hang themselves to teach them a lesson about how little they must know.

Oh. And all the work was done without any written consent or approval and a 3 month long refusal to give any information regarding the cost of repairs until we were forced to issue a stop work order to assess what damage he was doing to my bank account.

That’s so messed up. I’m glad you’re done with his shop man...my mechanic will flat out not accept aftermarket parts. It’s sort of bullshit, but at least I know I’m only getting OEM parts.

There are a couple other indie shops I can go to if I need a coil pack or strut replaced because I would use OEM rebuilt parts from Arnott or RMT in those scenarios.

RMT does coil packs, correct? I think I could maybe get Arnott struts, but only because of their stellar reputation.

RMT has a coil pack rebuild/reprogram service that will get you back on the road for about 50% less than a full replacement.

Do they last as long ?
